DOLLS

What little girl does not love dolls? And since I am in my second, third or maybe fourth childhood, I still love dolls!!!
I got into making dolls by accident. My daughter Karen and her girl friend Gerri were taking porcelain doll classes and asked me to join them. I thought about it and said ok. They have both since been diagnosed with MS, but still persue their hobby. Everyone was making full size dolls, so I made a newborn baby doll. I really enjoyed the experience, but after she was finished, I thought..I don't have any place to put big dolls, but wanted to continue...then the light came on....I need little people! I asked the instructor if she had any mini molds and she had a few...well needless to say I was off and running. The next week she had my little treasure poured and in the pan ready for me to start work on....OOOOOOOOOHHH! I'm suppose to clean these tiny things without breaking tiny fingers, toes, etc??? Made that leap with no problems...then came the china painting...tiny eyes, eyelashes..fingernails...this is suppose to be fun...right???
Below are the end results of my efforts and it was and still is fun!!
Having given away all my houses, my little people needed a home..I bought a small corner curio cabinet and made them comfortable.

The doll in the white ruffle dress was my first one. I had her underthings on and her wig done. She was on the arm of the chair while I was sewing her dress, all of my first dolls clothes are hand sewn. My little dog, I had at the time, thought that looked like a neat new toy and quickly grabbed it and began tossing it in air!!! Well, it survived, except the wig had to be redone and 2 fingers were broken. I could have replaced the arm at the next class, but decided to keep it as is, as a reminder of my little dog! The baby and the ballerina were also made in class from some molds she had. I did not make the furniture but did make all of the flowers. I found the Mammy and the lady in yellow in some of my browsing.

The lady in the stripped dress was made for me by a lady in a Savannah, GA. shop. The doll in the black is a Doreen Sennett kit I found in a shop in Orlando, FL. Her dress is made from black lace with a black silk petticoat. The one in the plaid is from my classes. I did make all this furniture.
